You worked as a research scientist in industry. Why did you choose to do a PhD?

I had always planned to go to graduate school to reach my goals, but I took a job to resolve my military service issue. The environment was so interesting, however, that it was not easy to decide to quit. Even so, the reason I decided to return to academia was that I concluded the depth of theoretical grounding I would be satisfied with could not be reconciled with meeting commercial demands. I needed time to focus on my own ambitions.
